What are you going to be doing with your new machine? What kinds of programs will you be running?

The simple answer to your question is yes, its always time to upgrade if you have the budget.

On the other hand if do not urgently need to upgrade for any particular reason I would wait until Intel releases their Ivy Bridge chips and get a computer then. That way you have the most up to date hardware and you can go from there.

Go for the I7 or take on an AMD setup x4 or x6, a single 570( for now), pickup 8 gigs of DDR3 1300 or 1600(sweet spot),and what's cpu cooler and PSU, and mobo like?

I use my PC from anything from gaming to recording .i have a home recording studio ..basicly i try to build a new PC about every 5 or 6 years was curious when the next sweet spot for price verse performance is to last me 5 or so years.basicly wanna get a PC that will run todays games really well on a 24 inch monitor..plus its not uncommon to run 3 or 4 programs while recording at once ..if its worth waiting for the next line of CPUs to come out ill wait no huge hurry really ..any input is great and thanksfor replying

Yeah if that is the case, wait for the Ivy Bridge line to come out and build your computer then. That way you will have it as futureproofed as possible.

Post back on here when that time rolls around (should be within the year) and we would be happy to help you build it.

Your PC seems to be capable enough, so I'd wait one more year for Ivy Bridge since it should provide significant power savings with a slight increase in performance.

I also go the 5-6 year upgrade cycle and I'm going to be building a PC in the next 4 months to replace an old Athlon 64 X2 4400+ and 7800GT. However, I know that I need to replace my computer since the GPU started to fail around 6 months ago.
