So I have a 3y/o midrange PC I made back in summer '08

And I'd like to upgrade the CPU. But as I am completely oblivious to what is good CPUwise, I come to you and seek your infinite knowledge. I have no idea if they've changed the slot size at all, so I may need to replace both the MoBo and the CPU

Mostly use it for gaming, and I like having the graphics at high levels, something that can get iffy with some of the custom Starcraft II maps. Current specs are as follows:

Currently it's running:
CPU Q6600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131284

MoBo X48 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017

GPU NVidia 560 TI (I think)

PSU 850W

Ram 4x2gb Corsair

Any help or suggestions would be nice.

c2Q processors are not worth upgrading to

Uprading your cpu means a new motherboard since cpu sockets have changed and probably new RAM and a new copy of Windows .
And you wont get much of a gaming improvement even if you do spend all that money

Best to just over clock the processor you have IMO . Maybe adding a cpu cooler for $50 or so
