Hey,

I am going to be building a new computer probably next month and was wondering about this build

MSI GTX580 Lightning
Intel 2500k
MSI Z68A-GD65 G3 Motherboard or MSI Z68A-GD80 G3 Motherboard (Whichever's better bang for the buck)
16GB G.Skill Ripjaw X RAM

In a Silverstone FTO2B Case

I was wondering a few things.

1. Is this a good build and how long would it be able to run games at max setting.
2. I know Bulldozer comes out soon and was wondering if i should wait.
3. I'm not sure when Nvidia and AMD are releasing their next GPUs so not sure if to wait.

Thanks

1)don't know, probably about a year or so
2)bulldozer is out, and it's worse than an i5 2500k, so you don't want it
3)if you want to wait, you can, but you can get a build now and still be fine

i'm going to assume this is a gaming build, so you don't need more than 8gb of ram. Also, another, much cheaper motherboard, but with pci-e 3.0 and usb 3.0 is the asrock extreme 3 gen 3, and it still supports sli/cfx. Also, consider getting a gtx 570 or gtx 570sli, as $200 isn't worth the 4 fps boost in games.

Yeah it's for gaming purposes. I will take you're advice on the motherboard but was wondering what power supply wattage i would need for the above system.

Thanks for replying btw

How about a power supply. MSI Lightning==check , Intel i5 2500k==check , now I would make a few suggestions.

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $124.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBSR $109.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231459

Antec High Current Gamer Series HCG-900 900W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V v2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply $129.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371050

COOLER MASTER Storm Enforcer SGC-1000-KWN1 Black SECC / ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case ATX PS2 / EPS 12V (optional ) Power Supply $89.99 and a $10 rebate and free shipping

Now it would be a great computer and last a few years at max settings depending on what is released for games but unless some game developer goes absolutlly crazy it should be fine.
Buldozer is now out and a disapointment considering all the hype.
Why wait the GTX 580 is going to be fine for a few years at top settings.

PSU: I'd save some cash and get this $89.99 (after $30 rebate) XFX 850W: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207011

Then save $200 and get a GTX 570 instead of a 580. Unless you're playing at at least 1900x1200, there's not much you can't run nearly maxed out with a GTX 570. Then you can just pick up a second GTX 570 for $200 in a year and you'll have a MUCH better gaming computer for the same price before they actually make any games that a single GTX 570 can't handle. Of course...if you're planning on SLI, then 6970's in crossfire are worth considering.

Also, a GTX 570 has much more overclocking headroom than a GTX 580. Consequently, you'll get nearly the same performance if you're willing to OC.
