Any input is appreciated thanks, I have just changed my mind about my new build and want to make sure my PSU can handle it.

Antec True Power Trio 550W (TP3-550)

New build
2 sata drives 7200 rpm
mushkin 2x4gb ddr3 1600
intel i3 2100
gigabit mobo
dvd rw drive
5 case fans
radeon 6870 gpu

I am going back and forth between the 6770 and the 6870 gpu. But would like to know if the PSU can handle the 6870.

Would also like to upgrade to an i5 2500 eventually, would the psu handle that?

THANKS for any input!

For a system using a single Radeon HD 6870 graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater power supply. The power supply should also have a combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 30 Amps or greater and have at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Your Antec True Power Trio 550W (TP3-550), with its maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 42 Amps and with two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors, is more than sufficient for your system configuration running with a single Radeon HD 6870.
