Ok, heres the details. I purchased on dec 14 (or so I thought) a quantum HDD 30.0 gig HDD. After it went on back order and I couldnt get it buy.com gave me a new Quantum 40.0 gig ata 100 7200 rpm (2 meg cache) AS drive. After all the hassles I got it for 95 bucks too!

I ran all the same tests that Tom Ran on his latest hard drive test and this drive beat all the drives. My test results are:

winbench version 1.2 HE 222000

hd tach ver 2.61

avg seek 9.5 ms
max speed 37,011.0 kps
minimum speed 25,974.8 kps
average 34,290.8 kps

However, Tom ran his on a intel celeron 500 with a I815 ( ultra 100) MOBO

I ran mine on a AMD classic 800 with an older amd irongate chipset MOBO. I don't know if my hard drive benefitted from the faster CPU or was hurt by the slower chipset? What do you think?

Also, I would be more than willing to make a few screenshots if anybody is interested but I need to know how to do that.

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing!
