3D TV Compatability

i have 2 gtx 580's and i have really wanted to hook up a 3d setup to my rig im not sure weather i should get a 3d monitor or this

That setup will not allow for 3D gaming. As long as this is just for 3D movies, you are ok, otherwise you need to find a monitor that supports true 120hz. It must have a dual link DVI connection. If not the monitor is limited to 24hz at 1080p.

but nvidias 3d glasses say that its compatible with there glasses also it says its hdmi pc compatible is that hdmi 1.4 or what?

And it probably will work, but you'll have 2 major limitations in gaming. Either you'll have to play at 1080p@24hz (per eye), or 720p@60hz (per eye). Neither is going to be good. I find with my 3D setup, 1080@50hz has flickering, I have to be at 55hz or 60hz to remove the flickering and needless to say that 720p sucks in comparison to 1080p.

so then i could just as easely run 3d on a 60hz tv and get a lcd instead of a dlp right?

No, and this is where it's confusing. 3D vision at 60hz is actually 120hz. It's running 60hz per eye for a combined 120hz. A 60hz normal resolution will give at most 30hz per eye, but hdmi 1.4 does not support 30hz per eye, it supports 24hz instead.

Simply put, if you want to game in 3D above the resolution above 720p, you'll need a monitor that supports 120hz and has a dual link DVI connection.

Otherwise you are either limited to 24hz per eye in 3D or you have to use 720p.
