Do I buy an ATA/66 or ATA/100 Hard Drive

I have a Motherboard with an ATA/66 controller. If you were in my shoes do you go for an ATA/100 hard drive or an ATA/66 HD?

My current HD is a 2.1 GB Western Digital (4 years old) (PIO4 mode). I don't upgrade very often. I checked around and there is about a $10-$15 difference between the two.

I plan on editing video and some graphics. I can't afford SCSI right now.

It really won't be hindered if you stick an ATA100 drive on an ATA66 interface assuming you run it in DMA mode and if using Windows enabling it in the OS as well.

Not just for that reason, but moreover, the majority of drives with newer technology are going to be ATA100. And they really are pretty inexpensive as a whole..

I would also consider it important to find some reviews of drives you are considering.. rather than just judging by specs.

You wouldn't be able to take advantage of ATA100 unless you have an ATA100 controller. However, in your case I personally think that $15 is a small premium to pay for it, so I'd go for ATA100 just in case I want to move it into another system in the future.
