Dirt Cheap Gaming Build

Approximate Purchase Date: Around Christmas

Budget Range: <$850 after rebates and peripherals

System Usage from Most to Least Important:Gaming, Autodesk software (if able), photo and video editing, everyday computing

Parts Not Required:none, need them all

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:newegg.com

Country of Origin:USA

Parts Preferences: I originally wanted an i5-2500k, but with my price range I found that probably won't happen. I looked at the i3-2100 and thought about that, but was worried about the fact it's only dual core. I don't know much about the performace of AMD or which of there products is best, so I was looking for some help with that.

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution:preferably 1920x1080

Additional Comments:Must be able to play new games at mid. to max settings. Need it for Guild Wars 2 and my schoolwork. I really would like it if I was able to use Autodesk software, but if i can't within my price range it's ok.

  2. well, since your budget is that tight and you need a monitor and windows 7, you're going to have to go amd. Also, a mouse/keyboard is included, since I assumed you need them.

and my list of parts is really out of order, since it's partially from a previous build I posted.

I was all happy, cause I was like yay this is going to under budget, and then I add the monitor and it's way over :pt1cable:
  3. Don't worry about the i3 being dual core, still beats virtually any AMD CPU in games and it's hyperthreading helps with other stuff. I would also stay away from wireless keyboards and mice for gaming, wired will be more reliable and responsive.

    ASRock H61M-VS
    1 x 4GB G.Skill Ripjaws 1333Mhz
    Sapphire HD 6870 1GB
    Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB
    Corsair CX-500
    Coolermaster Elite 430
    Samsung DVD Burner
    Acer 23.6'' Monitor
    Logitech K120 + LS1
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

Total - $846.88 before shipping and $40 rebates.

EDIT: If you need a headset too I would get something like PLANTRONICS GameCom 367 at $24.99 after you get the rebates.
  4. for $60 more then the above system a quad core i5 2400 could be yours instead of a due core.
