Amd 64 x2 4400

Hello,
what AMD Athlon CPU are compatible with a 64 x2 4400 2.3 Ghz . I've blown the original CPU ( 4400) on an Asus AM5100 MB - can I put in another Athlon socket 2 CPU eg Athlon II dual core 260 3.2 Ghz?

The highest you can go on that motherboard is the Athlon x2 6000+ I'm afraid.

The newer AM2+ CPUs wont work on it, or at least there is no mention of it anywhere.

That cpu socket is socket 939 ..the previous poster got it almost correct... the highest socket 939 cpu was a 6400 X2... NO later socket cpu will fit...(too many pins)

No. Your motherboard is a an AM2 socket board made for Acer Aspire PC's. You will need to find another AM2 socket replacement processor from the same processor line of Athlon 64 series X2 processors. In fact, I would not try to replace with anything other than the same exact processor. Now, beyond that, how do you know the processor is bad? Processors going bad are very, very rare.

The board is actually AM2 I've seen em on Ebay
