Are you refering to adding a graphics card instead of an integrated option ?

There might be an option in your system's bios to disable the on-board video.

Right click on your desktop go to personalize. Then there should be a link that says advanced settings. See if you can find something in there, under adapters.

All you have to do is plug the monitor into the new video card as opposed to the integrated video output and it will use it. You'll have to go the the Nvidia/AMD website to download drivers to get it's full performance, but as soon as you plug the monitor into the video card that's what the computer will use.
