Newly built computer dvd drive wont open or read

Hi i have just finished building my computer and am ready to load the OS on it but the DVD drive will not work it is non responsive the only thing it does is light up when i push the open button. Please help and thank you ahead of time.

assuming the power and SATA cable are connected

and you can see in BIOS that its listed in the boot order

Then you have a faulty dvd drive .
You can open it with a paper clip . Insert in to the tiny hole on the front by the tray . It may still read and write .....just not open

Thank ou very much. I took your advice and checked the cables and it turned out to be a faulty sata cable, so iput a new in and it works great.
