Pull out mains power, remove battery, press and hold power button to discharge.
Leave overnight and try again, some laptop suffer from a static electricity build up thats stops them from powering on, especially HP's with touch panels.

I pulled out a long heavy hewlett packard 10.8 vd.c. battery and then pressed the power button for about 7 seconds
Should this do it as i have just bought this and it switch on then while was out it must have hibenated and now i've done what you said
