HD 6950 2 GB or GTX 570
620-650W PSU from Antec, XFX, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling, or Corsair

inexpensive keyboard & mouse (PS2 keyboard, USB mouse -- wired is cheaper), inexpensive 2.1 speaker set.

should be around 1000-1100 pounds, leaving plenty for windows and a nice desk,

I know man, I thought I'd post some sites for you so you can maybe find the items cheaper, a lot of our members are U.S. so not familiar with U.K. sites
I'll leave system suggestions to others as I'm at work and cant surf too much on my phone
Although Squirrels suggested build is a damn good one, I wouldn't change anything there
