Hi,

I'm upgrading my old 775 system to a new 2011. Things I am carrying over from the old for now are:

2 LiteOn dvd burners
3 1t sata II drives
1 soundblaster x-fi platinum
1 nVidia 8800 Ultra graphics card water cooled with a ThermalTake Big Water system.

Assides from the new 3930k Chip I'm also adding a 2t sata III drive and 32g (4 8gig chip) corsair vegence.

My question is, will my thermaltake 850w power supply cover the new setup? I am planning on upgrading that to 1000w+ in the future but am trying to keep my initital build cost down. If I have to, I will order a new power supply, but really hoping I won't have to for now.

Solution
The simple answer is yes.

I'm running a 3930K with a pair of GTX580s on a Cooler Master 850W Silent Pro, this monster draws ~300W idle and ~600W running. That was not a calculated power measurement but actually readings taken with a meter at the power socket.
easily, gut feel says 500W max, if y uare going to buy 1000W just buy it, don't buy two PSU's
remember 1000W+ is only really needed with tri-quad gpus. the cpu is only 20-30 watts more than an 1155 system.
Where do you expect to end up system wise, th enew gpu's are coming in a 225W (or is it 250W), so 200 for the platform, + 2x 250 = 700W, 850 will be fine. But which 850?

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Without digging through some stuff, it is a toughpower 850w that will support 2 graphic cards in sli at the time. I don't plan on adding a card, but will eventually swap my 8800 out for a 590. At some point I'll probably pick up a 1000w+ in the future since my 850w is long in the tooth. I'm glad I don't need to spend anything more right now just to get my new system to post. Again thanks everyone.
