AdrianPerry :
Phenom
EDIT: Second the above though, SandyBridge is the way to go if its a new build
get socket 1155 with 8gb ram (bought 8gb for £32, i5 2400 for £140 motherboard for £80)
£252 for way better perfomence i5
very little cost difference between amd and intel
intel is way ahead of amd in terms of cpu performance
most intel cpus may have less cores but they are more efficent and better at gaming that amd cpu's
im going to get a lot of nerd rage from amd fanboys
a dual-core sandy bridge core i3 can beat the performence of a lot of amd processors
look at the charts here
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
a dual core intel beats all amd's processors except these FX-8150
Phenom II X4 Black Edition 980, 975
and there beaten by an i5 2300
amd = not worth getting unless you need a lot of cores but then you would have the budget for socket 2011 or would get a workstation (zenon i believe, i have no idea of code name for them)
