Laptop cpu upgrade?

I would do it too, but I would keep an eye on temps. The TDP of the t7200 is slightly more, who knows how efficient a laptop is at exhausting air. I doubt you will be able to tell much of an upgrade though unless you really tax the cpu.

Ok, thanks. It is free to swap so ... I guess I'll do it. I've started ripping blu rays, which takes a while and presumably taxes the cpu. I'm new to this - do I simply need some thermal paste and and alcohol (for cleaning off the old thermal paste). Sorry for the delay in responding - I was expecting an email notification of a reply but I guess I neglected to 'tick the right box'.

ripping blu rays taxes the IO and is most dependent on the BR drive. Yes you need some alcohol (for drinking) and some also for the thermal paste ;) And you need some thermal paste, like I said, you are increasing the thermal load on the cooling parts, so dont skimp on paste. Get something good like AS5 or other name brand.
