log into the router in the garage - connecting via network cable - disable the DHCP and change the LAN IP to 192.168.1.253

then connect it to the main router by using one of the four LAN ports, NOT the WAN/Internet port

I can't log into the router in the garage since I changed address to 192.168.2.1
which I was told to do using earlier instructions on another forum what do I do now?

  4. there should be a reset button on the back of the router, press it for 30+ sec. This will reset it to manufacturer default.

only connect the router to the PC and set it up using the IP 192.168.1.1

first setup the wireless security and save
then turn off DHCP and change the LAN IP to 192.168.1.253 and save
finally connect the router using one of the four LAN ports to the main router
