5 beeps in post

hey

so i got the parts for my computer yesterday and began the build today. starting with an external build, i got the essentials set up and then turned it on... 5 beeps in POST.

i looked up asrock post beep codes (my mobo is an asrock extreme3 970) and it says that 5 beeps means there's a processor error. okay so how do i diagnose the cause of the failure? i was reading something that suggested that 5 beeps probably doesn't mean that the processor is outright dead (or else the beeps wouldn't have happened at all), but if it isn't dead, what's wrong with it?

this is my first build, any help is greatly appreciated

More about beeps post
  1. make sure you connected the 8 pin 12v cpu connector

and that the cpu fan is connected to the cpu fan header

Did you follow all the instructions in the manuals? Maybe overheating?
  4. make sure your graphics card is in the slot properly and any 6 or 8 pin connectors are plugged into it

could also try reseating the cpu and heatsink

whats the full list of hardware you are using?
  5. mobo - asrock extreme3 970
cpu - amd phenom ii x4 925 deneb
    gpu - radeon hd 6870
    psu - rosewill hive-550
    ram(x2) - g.skill value series 4g ddr3 sdram

tho i currently don't have the gpu connected. i got the 5 beeps with it on, took it off and i'm still getting the same 5 beeps

also, how do i reset the cpu/heatsink? do you mean taking them off my mobo and reinstalling
