It will perform much better than that !
That card was made for HD resolutions. If you have a 1024 X 768 monitor, and if you're thinking of buying this card, then upgrade your monitor as well to a 1080p one. If you don't feel like getting a better monitor, for now, then I'd get a cheaper card.

and i planned to purchase a new monitor after the build plus i also have a 26" tv flat screen that i use it is only 720p but it does just fine

also this monitor supports 1280x 1024 at 60Hz

That card will perform great at even 1920x1200. If you only have a tiny screen to use with it, definitely use its highest recommended resolution.
