I'm working on a Gateway MT3421 and having a curious problem. The bios clock keeps resetting back to 01/01/2003. I've already replaced the CMOS battery. Here is what happens:
The computer will work fine until left alone, then at some point when it goes into screensaver, the screen image goes crazy and I have to hard reboot it. When it comes back up the time on the BIOS and computer have reset back to 1/1/2003.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi :)

One of my companies repairs laptops...

Assuming you replaced the battery (cmos) with a NEW battery and assuming it wasnt soldered in and you resoldered it properly or if it was a small white plastic connection which you DIDNT break....

Then you are going to need a new or secondhand motherboard for the laptop..... if you were in the UK.... as an example, one of my engineers could POSSIBLY trace the fault through the motherboard and fix it, but it would cost at least a couple of hours of his time, maybe three... and we charge £50 an hour.....

So basically its not worth fixing unless its under warranty ?

All the best Brett :)
