Problems with initial setup of p8z77-v lk. need help!

Hey guys, kinda at a loss right now. Just finished my first build and have been struggling for hours trying to download windows. My brother has a copy of windows xp I'm trying to install so after I do I will immediately be downloading the upgrade version of windows 8. way cheaper than full version. The Asus bios boots up just fine and I have full control over the the components. Except initially it could not find my HDD and it took about a hour to magically have it appear and still cannot find my ssd which are both plugged into sata 3 slots. The bluray drive has worked fine and is plugged into a sata 2.
When I try to install windows xp it goes through the initial downloading until it gets to "downloading windows" and then just goes to a blue screen that says " a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" and then gives some pointless solutions to resolve the issues.

I'm kinda at a loss of what to do. I'd appreciate any help I could get. Thank you guys

  1. Hi,
For installing XP you'll have to slipstream the SATA driver and the SP2 or 3 using nLite.
  2. Okay. I'm fairly new to this. How do I do that? And would that be the reason the sad isn't showing up in the bios as well?
  3. Do you have the Windows XP CD?
  4. Yes I do. it has been used on another computer before with success a few months ago so I know the disc is not faulty

This is assuming that your XP cd is old enough not to have the latest service packs on it.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if it is that old. How would I download nlite if the computer doesn't have a is yet? I apologize for the stupid questions guys.
  7. Download nLite ,
this SATA driver , the Sp3 (for XP 32-bit) from Microsoft.
Run nLite and follow the instructions for slipstreaming the driver and SP3.
Burn the resulted iso image on a CD and install the OS from it.
  8. You will have to create this disk from a working PC.

Or, I think you can order them from Microsoft but they will probably milk you 20-30 bucks or so.
