Yeah for encoding the extra cores of the X6 are worth it .

As for the better gaming card ...... yes to that too . Its hard to game at 1080p with less than a 6850

I completely agree.

For what you do, a x6 will be worth it. It is useless for most users, but since you convert movies and unzip and pack a lot of files, it'll be well used.

Something that MUST be brought up and addressed is the inadequacy of most Cooler Master PSUs: http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx

I recommend an Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, or XFX. Where are you buying parts from? If you can link it for me, you won't have to come back and forth with PSU choices.

EDIT: You should be able to find an Antec Earthwatts or Corsiar CX series for 50 euros or less.

first of all thnx for all your help/tips i now want the 1090t/radeon 6850 but i still read on many forums that the high end x4 cpu's are almost as good as the x6 cpu's for gaming.

so do you think it's worth it to spend those 70 bucks for a few h of encoding/unpacking rar every day?

Sorry, I was afk (more or less) for a bit.

It is a fact that the x4's are as good as the x6's for gaming. In many cases, an x3 is just as good. You should never get an x6 for gaming. We were basing the x6 recommendation off of this usage:

"I don't game alot...and i unpack alot of archives with winrar.

i like to do the following things:

...
-good winrar unpacking...
-video converting (most of the time avi-jpeg or wmv-divx)"

As far as unpacking .RAR files or anything else, make sure you use 7-zip or another multi-threaded packer/unpacker: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/fx-8 [...] 95-16.html
There's no point in a x6 CPU if you are committed to WinRAR or WinZip. I use 7-zip because it's free AND better.

As far as video conversion...that depends on what software you use, but most of it will be multi-threaded.

PSU's...

note that Cooler Master you linked is Tier 4. I generally would just stay away from Cooler Master.

Here's the Corsair CX430 for 40euro: http://www.mycom.nl/Product/Compon [...] V2/1178795
If you plan on using a more powerful graphics card than a 6850, you should go with the Corsair CX500 for 53euro: http://www.mycom.nl/Product/Compon [...] V2/1178799

Why get a 103euro 6750 when you can get a 99euro 6770?: http://www.mycom.nl/Product/Compon [...] GB/1167293

Not sure I'd spend the extra to get the 6 core vs. quad. How ofter do you encode, and can you find an encoder that uses your video card (GPU cycles) instead of CPU?

The video card is another matter. The 6750 to 6770 upgrade (absolutely). The 6750 to 6850 upgrade depends on monitor size. ("i will be using 2 screens (dvi outputs) " ) what resolution will you be running when gaming? If 1920 or higher you need better video else stay with 6770.

hi think that i'm gonna buy the 6850 and if i can make a good deal with the store owner i may get the 6core cpu for a cheaper price otherwise i will go for the amd phenom ii x4 965be

Reply to kangedde

You'll be very happy with the 6850 and the x4. The x6 is really only worth it if you spend more time encoding/upacking than you spend gaming.
