580GTX sli to much ?

Hey here are my specs. My use is for wanting to max out new and upcoming titles for next year. Im just using 1 27" 1080 monitor atm with a 24" just for temp monitor programs, music and internet browsing.

Intel Core i7 2600k ( 4.8ghz oc )
Corsair Vengeance 8gb DDR3 1600
WD Caviar Black 1tb 7200rpm HD
OZC Agility 3 Sata III 120gb
Asus 580 GTX 1500mb
Corsair AX1200 PSU
Coolermaster Haf X chassis

Do you think the second one in SLI is a waste for only running in 1080 ?

  1. one other question is will my Core i7 2600k Bottleneck 2x 580 GTX SLI ?

For one 1080p monitor, two GTX 580's in SLI is overkill. Look up benchmarks for the titles you'll play and you'll see that one is all you need.

Or is there a game that you currently are unable to play? If not, just hold onto the cash and enjoy your sweet setup.

A 2600k (especially overclocked to 4.8 GHz) will not bottleneck a gtx 580 sli setup.
  3. if i were to upgrade to 1920x1200 monitor or 2560x1600 would the increase in scaling performance be worth getting two ? Also would i be wise to get a different brand ? im looking at getting a evga for second because of the better warranty, but would this effect the sli performance by having two different brands ? both would be reference cards.
  4. It won't matter if the cards are two different brands as long as they are both gtx 580's. So getting two reference cards, like a PNY and an EVGA, will not cause any problems.

2560 x 1600 is twice the number of pixels as 1080p, so no one could fault you for going SLI at that resolution.
