i have a p5kpl/amps motherboard perhaps it is ddr2 but i want to buy a new graphics card under $150 my primary choices are GTS 250,GTX 260 and GTS 450 but as per the specification of those cards they are all DDR3 or GDDR3 or GDDR5.so i consulted with some dealers about that but they told me that i have to replace a DDR3 motherboard over my DDR2,but my budget is very low i can't afford another motherboard it is possible that i can use a graphics card from above and also i want to run witcher 2 and crysis 2 in very high settings so please kindly help me in this matter......

More about : buy graphics card

The memory in the video card (DDR3, GDDR3 or GDDR5) wouldn't conflict with the fact that you have DDR2 RAM installed. Dunno if you'll get Crysis 2 to run on very high settings with that budget though.
August 22, 2011 11:46:27 AM

that's ok coz i know that my ram is ddr 2 but i wan't to know that if my motherboard is anyhow compatible with these graphics cards then it will easy for me to buy one of those

hey guys please help i have no time i have to buy this within 4 days
August 22, 2011 9:53:51 PM

They should run fine on it.
August 23, 2011 4:03:28 AM

The memory has nothing to do with the graphics card...you should be fine. Try aiming for the GTX460 its around $175 and you will be close to maxing out Crysis 2.
August 23, 2011 4:33:50 AM

so are u suggesting that i can run those graphics cards on my motherboard without changing my ram to DDR 3 ? coz as i know if u change a DDR 2 ram to DDR 3 then u change your motherboard also. It's very complicated process i only want to change my graphics card not my entire system.
Is gtx 460 is compatible with my motherboard ?
OMG it's very confusing to me please help

The memory on a graphics card is not dependent on your motherboard. all a graphics card needs is a PCI-E Slot And Some cards need external power(PCI_E 6-Pin),The Connectors for the power come with the card.
I am using 2GB DDR2 Ram, and using an ATi 6750 DDR5, No Probs At all.. :D
Earlier i use a 9500GT DDR3, then upgraded to this.

These shop keepers are just trying to make you buy more things. don't fall for that please.. :)

yeah, whoever is telling you the mobo has to be compatible with the ram on the video card is either retarded, or trying to get you to buy it from him and get your money

the 460 is the best of those cards you listed, and it is 159.99 on newegg right now after rebate its 129.99. The question is, whether or not you have a power supply that can support it?
August 23, 2011 3:37:40 PM

how much power supply is needed for it ?
and how can i know it ?

August 23, 2011 3:43:29 PM

check your power supply, im thinking you have somethign in the 300-350w range with the card you have, you need a 450w to run the 460.

A Minimum of 450W is reuired to run the GTX 460, and its the best among the list!
August 24, 2011 3:34:08 AM

hey guys i think i have 450w-500w power supply perhaps i can run it now
but one thing guess if i have only power supply less than 450w then can i run the graphics card on it ?what should i do to solve this problem ?
hey i just check the specifications of 550 ti, gts 450 and gtx 460 they are showing maximum power draw is 116w,106w,160w respectively and recommended PSU is 400w,400w and 450w respectively. I guess it is very good for my system and i just search some sites randomly and i found that nvidia decreases gtx 550 ti's price to $149 ,which is in my budget, is it true ?

If you can get the 550Ti for that price, then thats not a bad deal. The performance will be right around the 460.

If the 550Ti costs more than the 460, then i guess the 460 will be better. because you can overclock the 460 to beat the 550Ti anytime. its a better value for money.
August 24, 2011 4:50:10 PM

Is overclocking a graphics card is good ?

I just want 2 know that is gtx 550 ti's price is down or not and how is 460 is better than 550 ti ?

August 24, 2011 5:34:53 PM

Yes, overclocking is good. i just meant that if you get a 550ti then get it, but if you are on a tight budget and dnt have much money left then get the 460.
August 25, 2011 4:10:03 AM

which is better 550 Ti or GTX 460 and how much they cost ?
August 31, 2011 2:43:58 AM

Hey guys if i have a ups could it be helpful enough for me to run a 500 w graphics card
gtx 560 ti

August 31, 2011 4:19:56 AM

Lol, the UPS has nothing to do with the power of a computer. could u just open ur case and look at the side of the PSU, den post its make and model here.
there should also be a table of some sort with Ampere values against 3.3V,5.5V,+12V etc. post it too.

hey i am thinking what is the difference between a PCIe 16x 2.0 and PCIe 2.0 x 16
and is a p5kpl am ps motherboard supports from the above. i think the above are the specification for a gtx 460 card.If my motherboard have a PCIe 1.0 x 16 when what i will do 2 run this card and also the price of the msi nvidia gtx 460 hawk 1GB is 12000/- INR
i have a PSU of exact 450 w which is the required power for a 460 card.
which is more then my budget. Is there any other product of this card which is upto 8000-9000 INR ?
guess i run that 460 is it going to be make any problem to my dual core processor ? or i will upgrade it to core 2 quad Q8400 is this a good choice plz help.......:)
this all situation is making me to reconsider about gtx 460 and gtx 550 ti.I know that 460 is far more better than a 550 ti but 550 ti is coming around 8000 or something.

Ok, so based on your very lengthy thread you need to decide already. You have a minimum budget and are in need of a psu and a gpu so decide already and stop stringing this thread out. 460 with an appropriate gpu and if you cant decide then go to nvidia.com to figure it out. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your upgrade

No.. Older generation motherboards don't have PCIe 2.0 Slots, they have 1.0 and 1.1 slots.
However, all PCIe 2.0 and 2.1 x16 Cards are backward compatible with PCIe 1.0 and 1.1. The Difference is minimal!

And i am frm india also, and the bad news is you will not get the GTS 460 for 8000-9000 Rs, even The GTS 450 Costs Rs 10,000.
The Best Card in 8000 - 9000 range is the ATi 6770, which will max out most games at 1280 x 800 resolution upto 1600 x 900. It also has DX11 Support!

yes u r right the ATi 6770 is really a great card with awesome performance.but there is a problem that 1GB of this model is very rare and i searched it.And also I ordered the dealer to bring a GTX 460 1GB because the lack of availability of those type of cards in orissa. but that freak forgot what to bring and he brought 1 gb of ati 5750 and a 512 mb of 6750.That's why i had to delay for more than 1 week.So again i was ordered another dealer to bring the GTX 460 and the ATi 6770 both 1 gb so that i could test it before buying and match the performance of both by playing games like crysis 2 in high settings.I think u should understand the problem.but the good news is that comp center will decrease the price of the cards for around 8000 to 9000 INR.so here i have to only choose the best graphics card from the two leading biggest rival of this time ATi and Nvidia
