Pop your Ubuntu CD in - relevant side updwards - and run it as a LiveCD to see if that identifies the network connection and finds the right driver. Is your system 32 bit or 64?

Linux Ubunto 10.04 needs to install the right driver for your wireless LAN in order to connect to the internet, you can search for linux version of your WLAN on the manufacturer web site.
