**Upgrading CPU on Sony Viao DTw/P450-vx mobo

My father in law is on a mission to upgrade the processor in his desktop computer. He wants to replace the old one for a new (same socket) cpu with better performance.

Socket 478



Is that possible on this board? Do I have to update the revisions or BIOS? Or should I have have him by a new mobo all together?

(not buying with one, just want we're looking at)

What cpu has he got ?

To be honest socket 478 is so old I seriously doubt you will get much more speed...try increasing the ram...it will have more effect...

P4 2.8 Ghz

I have upgraded RAM to the best the mobo could handle. it can only handles 2gig. Also I bought him the best video card for it's time as AGP. and a faster HDD.

I don't have much experience with OEM mobo and computers. I have never bought one. I have built all my computers for the tower up.
