AVOID a 465!!!!!

the 460 runs cooler and performs better anyway...

seriously gtx465 is a baaaaaaad sheep

i ran one of these for about 6 months (just upgraded didnt die) and it ran like a champ.......overclocks likes nobody's business.....stays realy cool......and honestly provided me with smoother gameplay than any other card ive ever had (when setup right(ie...dont just maxx the *** atta everythin))

I'd probaly get a HD 6850. Sometimes 460 1GB pulls ahead, sometimes 6850 pulls ahead depending on the game/ application, but they are pretty evenly matched overall, except in power draw under load. ( 6850 uses like 50watts less, 100watts less Xfired or SLId ) I'd probably go 6850 so I could leave myself the option of adding a 2nd card later and still keep your same 750watt PSU. ( Im assuming you have a decent, single 12v rail )

i take it you have yet to read yesterdays article....tsk tsk

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-geforce-stut...

that article strictly talks about micro stuttering in xfire and sli. Both brands suffer from it, though Nvidias is less pronounced. The need to possibly upgrade my psu IF I decided to add a 2nd card would probably bother me more than the marginal increase in micro stutter from AMD versus nvidia. Then again, using a single card, micro stutter has no bearing at all, and given 2 evenly matched cards performance-wise, I'd still jump on the one that uses 20% less power under load.

numbers and benchmarks.......but have you done an eyetest.....eye have !!! ive used both cards....the 1gb gtx460 gives a better....smoother gaming experience....

So have I, they are both exactly the same, except the HD 6850 uses less power.

Get the GTX 460, it is an overall better card due to cooling and overclockability. You may see some benchmarks that favor the 465, but still you should go with the 460. That particular Galaxy GTX 465 has a smaller fan than most and so needs to spin faster and is therefore noisier than most 465's.

Why are you guys even mentioning a 6850 when the OP is asking about advice between two Nvidia cards?
Graphics card Expert

Why?

Because OP didn't state that he wanted to stick to Nvidia?

Why?

Because the HD 6850 is more efficient than the 460 and 465.

He also stated any opinions/help are welcome.

That's why.

Unlike you Matto, we're trying to help people make the right decision. It just so happens that the huge majority of those right decisions mean buying AMD because they are faster and cheaper.

Maybe you should spend more of your energies petitioning Nvidia to drop prices to make their cards more palatable instead.

Insult?

The only insult in this thread is you calling me a fanboy.

There is a thread that states how to ask for help, and it states you should post if you only want Nvidia or AMD.

I've been planning on buying the GTX 460 until I came across the GTX 465 which seems to be just as good if not better.
  • GTX 460
  • GTX 465
  • 750W PSU
  • HAF 922

I'm having trouble choosing between the 2 cards, I have a 750W PSU which should be more than enough for the GTX 465.

Any opinions/help would be great! Thanks in advance.

  • long story short bro, go with a gtx 460 1gb card. msi twin frozer is a good card as it OC well.
