  1. It is a low power card, so any 300-350ish watt quality PSU should handle it. and by quality, I mean 80 plus certified. Even a low powered computer needs a quality power supply since it is the most important component.

You do not need 700 watts and even if you did I would not get it from XtremeGear.

I do not know what your shopping options are, so I will post a Newegg link, and you can use the information to shop elsewhere if you like. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339029
  2. For a system using a single GeForce GT 240 graphics card NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 300 Watt or greater power supply that has a combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 18 Amps or greater.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT a crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Total Continuous Amperage Available on the +12V Rail(s) is the most important.

  3. so i should look for one 400-500 watts thats 80plus certified btw wat does 80+ stand for sorry for the dumb questions :) also i mainly shop on ebay as all i have is paypal 40 bucks is the price for the extremegear at 700 watts and idk cuz he told me multiple times that its an awesome psu and that this vid card uses up 600 watts.. yea i think hes lying though :)
  4. Stay away from that XtremeGear crap.
  5. 80+ does NOT guarentee quality, it guarentees efficiency, but it could still be a pile of dog poo. There are fake 80+ certs floating around from what I've read.
Good brands are generally better. Seasonic, antec... many others.
let us know what you can find in your budget.
  6. ok man well i guess the best thing you guys can do to help out more than you already have is list the brands that are reliable :) cuz idk...
  7. tell us what you can get for the prices you can afford from your suppliers.
    Or read the psu stickies.

    Which one is it?

    True Power Series
    TRUE550 - Discontinued
    TRUE550 EPS12V - Discontinued

    True Power 2.0 Series
    TP-II 550 - Discontinued
    TP2-550 EPS12V - Discontinued

    True Power Trio Series
    TP3-550 - Discontinued

    True Power New Series
    TP-550, OEM: Seasonic, semi-modular, +12V@45A

If it's the True Power New Series TP-550 then grab it.

If it's the discontinued stuff it then depends on which model.

That's the model from over 9 years ago.

It's based on a very old inefficient design with 50 Amps on its +5V rail.

I certainly hope you didn't put in a bid for it.
  13. its on ebay for a reason, unless they are a shop
  14. what about this psu 130630881492 item ob ebay :)

That discontinued Antec NeoPower HE Series 550 Watt model (Neo HE 550) is from six years ago. At least it's a more modern design that has active PFC and is semi modular.

When it was new it would have had a combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 42 Amps and it also has two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary modular power cables.

It was a good power supply back its day.

HEC/COMPUCASE power supplies should be avoided at all cost.

The Antec Earthwatts 500w EA-500 is also a discontinued model from 2007 but it is vastly superior to that HEC HP585D you linked to above it.

    Antec Earthwatts 500w EA-500
    • OEM: Seasonic
    • combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 34 Amps
    • two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors

It's actually quite highly rated, so would be a great choice if it's in good working condition.
