New build first time gaming pc

Hey i would like to build a pc for gaming but have been told 400£ is not enough i will have around £500 but will and os with that aswell do you think i could build a pc to run skyrim and bf3 , this does not include mouse keyboard or screen though would like to order parts for christmas ive just seen a video of tesblivion with some mods to improve the graphics and i would love to be able t do somthing like this also would like to know what fraps and level i could play games on eg med-high-xhigh ?
