I just recently graduated with Bachelors in Game Art and Design and although I am a true blue gamer through to my heart I am primarily buying this rig in order to work on my projects. Although I am a bit of a noob when it comes to computer hardware I have been doing a huge amount of research the last few weeks and I think i've put together a pretty nice build but id really like to get some knowledgable opinions on it.
My Goals For This Build:
1) Be able to run multiple high end programs such as Autodesk Maya 2012, Autodesk Mudbox 2012, the full Abobe Master Collection CS5 including Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator and others, the Unreal Developement Kit, ZBrush, and other processing intensive art creation programs.
2) Be able to run several of the aforementioned programs all at once without lagging.
3) Be able to play pretty much every game out there on highest settings because although this is mostly for working on my projects doesnt mean I wont be gaming on it
4) Future proof this as much as possible so that I hopefully the biggest upgrades ill be doing in the next few years is getting some more 3tb hard drives and getting another Evga Gtx 580 Hydro Copper 2 3gb to sli.
So that having been said here is the build ive put together. The biggest things im still concerned over are my choice in motherboard and my video card choice. I have been leaning towards the EVGA GTX 580 Hydro Copper 2 3GB (although im trying to see right now if I can get them to make it one of the Classified versions) primarily because its one of the best cards out there that ive seen in my research and the water cooling other then just being pretty damn cool lol, should allow me some added headroom for overclocking. Also right now im leaning towards going with a single solid card for now and get another one later to sli as opposed to getting two cheaper cards in sli now because I wouldn't be having to change out both of them any time soon and they dont have water cooled versions of the gtx 570 hd 2.5gbs.
Anyways those are the biggest things id like opinions on but id like opinions on all of it. Also I have already purchased the monitors and I plan on running a dual monitor set up in 1920x1080. Although I have the ram chosen as the lowest available what im actually getting is Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Module. Im going to buy it from newegg for $130 less then what upgrading it to costs from Cyberpower and giving the ram it will come with to my friend whos making a much more low end rig and has the extra slots available.
