System specs please. Is your system oem (dell, hp, etc)? Use cpuz is you don't know your motherboard model number.

its a custom built: ati radeon sapphire 6770 gpu, 4gb corsair 1333mhz, intel pentium D 3.00ghz, asus p5g41t-m lx motherboard

cpu support list: http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/I [...] M_LX/#CPUS

used quad core: http://austin.craigslist.org/sys/2792758480.html

This cpu overclocks well. The q9xxx series new can cost 3x as much; not worth it. Better to upgrade to 1155 than spend so much.

O1die is right. Looks like your board supports the entire line of Core2Duo and Core2Quad processors.

The bad news is these are now obsolete and Intel no longer makes them. The even worse news is they are as expensive now as they were new and in some cases even more. You are better off saving up for a complete system upgrade than putting money in expensive obsolete tech.

Nope, it showed up as I was typing my post. I was looking up your motherboard while I was replying. Your post showed up after I posted. See how close the post times are.

that cpu wont run skyrim

save your money and get a sand bridge pc or wait for ivy bridge

(i built new pc, z68 motherboard,i5 2400,8gb ram,antec 300 case,psu and dvd bruner for £385 (ill get a newer graphics later, im reusing a hd 4670)

£385 isnt that much for a good gaming system, throw in a good graphics card (havent researched £1-200

and you have a really nice pc

get the c2d as it will be a huge improvement and will run skyrim as long as you don't mind playing on medium.
