Hey,

I am looking for some configurations for a rig that I will use for lots and lots of video, 3D effects and tons of other editing and rendering stuff. Money isn't a problem since the agency that gives me projects will pay up to 10.000 Euros for this build and I can also add something if needed. I am looking for a 4 GPU setup and possibly a 2 CPU-based system. Also I will be massively overclocking the CPUs up to at least 5 GHz so I will need an extremlly powerfull cooling system and a motherboard to support all of this stuff. I do not need monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers. I only need a system that will cut off as much time as possible from rendering and stuff. It takes my current configuration (C2D 2.13 GHZ oc'd @ 2,8 GHz, Corsair 4 GB DDR2 - 800 and 2 x Gigabyte GeForce 7600 GT) 6 to 10 days just to render a project, that means about two projects per month. If I'll get a monster system, I think I can make at least one more project per month and that means around 6.000 Euros more per year (more projects, more money).
I would love an Intel-based system. The parts that I need are: CPUs, motherboard, video cards, memory, case, powersuply and cooling system. Fist I was thinking at an i7 2600k overclocked at around 5 GHz, then I was thinking that an i7 990x since 6 cores maybe will do better for me and a few minutes ago I was thinking at a two CPU configuration, if this can help me, of corse :D

i dont think there is any motherboard which supports dual lga 1155 or the lga 1356 cpus... if you want to go with two cpus in one board its got to be a server cpu... the intel xenon

ok, here it is, and should render like lightning :) cant overclock the processors, but im sure 12 cores + 24 threads is fine with no overclocking hehe... all you would need is a big rad, few fans, the case is made for that motherboard, maybe get 2 sets of 16gb ram... 3 gtx 580's with 3gb ram each is more than enough, with watercooling plates allready on, 480gb ssd, and with the spare money get the watercooling rad, andall that jazz.

Nice idea mobohobo :D I think that I can go with 4 way SLI and I don't need any HDDs or SSDs since I have plenty :D I've already got 2 x Corsair Force GT 2.5" 120GB SATA 3 (555 MB/s read and 515MB/s write) and 2x Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA3, but the drive from OCZ that you recomanded looks like a better way. Intel Xeon looks like a reliable way to go since it's mainly just a i7 with a few different functions like EEC support, a bigger life span and a higher price :) But I need triple-chan memory kits and I like that you picked up some Corsair memory modules. I think I'll need a more powerfull PSU and I was thinking that Enermax MAXREVO 1500W would be better. Btw, what do you think about 2 x nVidia Quadro 6000?

yeah, look at the top of my last post, thats the same psu :) 2x quatro 6000's would be good, but also consider the tesla series (http://www.scan.co.uk/products/6gb-nvidia-pny-tesla-c2070-pci-e-20-(x16)-1500mhz-gddr5-448-cores-dual-slot-active-cooling) the 1500w should be enough.

so this has triple sli, plus a workstation card, crazy expensive, but sweet :)

Kinky :D I think I'll take GeForce GTX580 since it's the fastest GPU at the moment and I would also like to play some games from time to time :) I kinda feel bad that there is no motherboard that supports two socket 1155 CPUs, since I'm a big fan of Intel's Sandy Bridge (my sister has an 2600k and it pure overkill for her since she only uses office apps and some AutoCAD from time to time).

Quad-SLI with GTX 580 :) Will it worth it to wait for Ivy Bridge and GF 600 Series or Radeon 7000 Series? I already have the projects scheduled for this year and I'm not in a hurry, but today I found out that I'll be sponsored by my agency and I was so eager to see what I can get for that money that I completly forgot to mention that it's no hurry to buy this pc.

well, to be honest, not much will use the power of quad sli 580's, so just think about how even the old generation of video cards are still in use. i would HIGHLY suggest nvidea, as it just seems to work better with intel, and cuda speeds up rendering with certain programs.

As much as I love the 2600k, I think I'll go with the dual Xeon configuration. I'm still searching if there is any possibility to have a dual 2600k configuration (but I doubt it).

PS: Just found this.

Hmm, I think I can wait until march since all my project for this year are booked, in january I have exams and I'll manage somehow in february. I can make one small project on my oldest pc still alive, a Celeron D336 :D I'll be researching for more information. It's just my first day of wondering forums and sites. Thanks for you're oppinions. I'll be back :D

to be honest id just get a 2600k and overclock the hell out of it, with quad 580 sli'd, then ask the sponsor for a little upgrade as the 6 core shouldnt be too much

yeah.. ok, i guess make the most of it :3 yeah id definatly get the xeon duel cpu and quad 580 then, its future proof, and could probably render the universe in 20 seconds :p
