  1. you should try get an i5 2400, it will be best for the money at that price range.

if you want AMD you'd want a phenom II x4 975 or equivalent and it will only cost about $250 for cpu and board.

    brings you to about $300
  2. Hmm....haven't considered the i5 2400. Whats a build with that processor that is still in the price range?
  3. you can go a lot cheaper for the motherboard for the AMD system.

for the 2400 you'd be looking at motherboards with lower features but you can easily fit it under $300 if you choose a cheap board

but if you want a better board with more features it will set you slightly over budget:

about $20 over budget but still within reason.
  4. i3-2100, asrock z68 extreme gen 3. Use the saved money towards the i5-3570k.
  5. So will it be a huge difference if I just bit the bullet and bought the i5 2500k?
  6. For new builds right now go intel. If you have to met a 300 price range a Llano build would be ok, but leaves you limited upgrade like with all AMD builds right now. only get the 2500k if you plan to OC if not you'd be fine saving 20-30 on the 2400-2500.
  7. the i5 2500k is worth it but you'd be looking at $400 for the cpu and board.

    do you want to OC?
  8. You know with my current setup I am OC'd but honestly with the EVGA 560 ti and 8gb of ram. Would i need to OC the i5 2500k to all the latest games at max settings with a high fps? or would i be totally fine without having to?
  9. you'd be totally fine without needing to.

if you aren't going to OC then the 2400 might be enough, I don't know about the future tho.
  10. It would be ~340 with the i5-2500k and the asrock z68 extreme 3 gen 3.
  11. yeah...i currently have liquid cooling so i don't need a fan. ill probably get the i5 2500. But the best amd one would be the phenom ii 975?
  12. i had a good look around and you can get some serious bargains if you buy a bundle.
  13. http://www.amazon.com/MSI-P67A-C43-Intel-i5-2500K-Bundle/dp/B0050JAR5Y

339bux all in... its not exactly a great motherboard but still it will work...

but for a few bux less theres stuff like this at dabs...

    Gigabyte Z68X-UD3 S1155 Intel Z68 Express DDR3 ATX $98
    Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz LGA1155 6MB $214.47

just look and you shall find ;)
  14. the phenom 975 and 980 are the best AMD cpus for gaming available.
  15. i suggest you go for a AMD build right now, and just buy a whole new system for an ivy build of i5 soon when you get the money, with 300$ + some old stuff that you have lyiing around can fetch you a nice amd build (if you have any lying around) even a cheap psu is good enough and some cheap gpu's, then when you get the money go for an i5, amd on such a budget would be good enough, i suggest amd phenom 960T if you can get your hands on it if not get those phenomII x2 which are cheaper and some nice cheap mobo a good cheap gpu like those 512mb ones and your good to go
  16. Do you live near a micro center? Because if you do, they are currently selling the 2500k for about 179 last time I checked and you can pick up a nice $50 dollar saving off of any of their mobos when you buy them together. Total would be less than $300. I found out about micro center after I had built my computer. Sadface.
  17. Here, just get yur 89.99 20$ less than newegg fx 6100 or phenom 2 x4 black edition at Microcenter, the fx may be the same price but its better here: http://www.microcenter.com/product/376784/FX_4100_Black_Edition_36GHz_Quad-Core_Socket_AM3_Boxed_Processor read da specs. Then, get a good 4gigs of ram a decent radeon or geforce graphics card under 100$, the motherboard fitting that core all at newegg last get the case and storage wherever you like. And youll need an optical drive to install your os so buy that too. Make sure it all fits and fits your budget.

  18. Oh and make sure your memory slot on the motherboard your planning to buy is 2x whatever you got, cuz that makes less money to spend on ram.
