Powersupply to video card

I have a GTX 570 and in the little guide the card came with it said to use the twp pci-e cables to connect it to my psu. But, I used two power cables that were already coming out of the psu to attatch to it. One was a 6 pin and one was an 8 pin with 2 detatchable so it fit into the 6 pin slot on my video card. Should I still use the pci-e cables instead or just leave it as it is. So far I had no problems, haven't done any gaming yet though.

Either way should work fine as they are just 12v supplemental power feeds. The mobo usually needs the 6+2 or a 4-pin 12v connector.

Well there was a 8 pin (2 4 pins) that I connected to the mobo so I guess I'm good then.
