Hi, I just decided to make my first custom PC, and I have little to no idea of what I'm doing. I have put something together so far:
Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129093
HDD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145533
Graphics:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161371
RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371050
MoBo/CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.739586
Power Supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371050

I am aiming for just around 1000 dollars, going over isn't that big of a deal, but not too much over, please : )
I would be using this for gaming, but I'm no pro, so it doesn't have to be Blue Gene, if you know what I'm saying : P
Small side-note I'm kinda going for an all-blue thing, so (sorry if I sound like some kind of crazy OCD-suffering idiot (which isn't too far off from the truth), but I would much prefer if all the components were blue (so any advice on a blue PSU would be much appreciated).
And, my last stipulation, as you can probably tell by the links, I would love Newegg links.
So my questions are:
1. Does this make any sense at all? (some parts too powerful or something like that)
2. Am I getting a good value for my money?
3. Am I being an idiot and forgetting a crucial part? (higher probability than you would think)
And, finally,
4. What changes should I make?

I tried to make this as organized as possible, but sorry if that doesn't work.

Case:
Antec Nine Hundred Two V3 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case
HDD:
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Graphics:
SAPPHIRE 100312-3SR Radeon HD 6950 Dirt3 Edition 2GB
RAM:
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)
Motherboard:
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
CPU:
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
Power Supply:
CORSAIR Gaming Series GS800 800W

Total: 1,049.93 - $35 rebates

Reasons:

1. The Sandy Bridge CPU is better for gaming than bulldozer at the same price point.

2. The motherboard above will be compatible with the "Ivy bridge" CPU and will also support PCI-E 3.0 (with the Ivy bridge CPU).

I also choose the 800w power supply so you will have the option to crossfire later on if you want to.

Something that you might have missed is a CPU cooler if you want to overclock, an operating system (unless you already have one) and DVD drive.

I'd lower the case to a

Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148441

and the Motherboard to a

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271

So you can add a

Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I was thinking about adding an SSD, but, at the moment, I would rather go for overall performance, especially because I can always get one and slap it on, but thanks :)

Any particular reason for the case other than the price, and general badassery? Also, thank you so much for helping me :)

It's just a good case with good air flow, not many fall into that category with a default blue color scheme. There is also the antec twelve hundred if you prefer a full tower case - it is also a bit more expensive. The antec three hundred would also be fine right now but might be a tight fit especially if you crossfire later on, the cable management is a bit harder with that case.

Ok thanks :)

By the way, how did you become so knowledgeable about computers? It always amazes me when I see people that basically know every part that you could possibly want (or at least it seems like that). I want to be like that! xD

Me personally, I learned it all from reading on the net and my own experience. There are others that work in the industry.

Reading toms articles is a good place to start, just google everything you don't know.

Sorry to keep pestering you, but I looked back at the setup, and decided to change it up a bit (more for my own experience than anything else). This is what I came up with.

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129093
(sorry, but I kinda fell in love with it xD)

MoBo/CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.739586
(although you said that the intel stuff was at the same price point, this way saves me $100. If it would be a signifcant decrease in performance, I would change it, but I don't think it will be. Also, this isn't really something that I would upgrade, it's my baby xD)

HDD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145533
(I went with this one b/c it is a bit cheaper, the other one was out of stock, and it is something easily replaced.)

RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345
(we agreed on this, cheap, awesome looking, and good)

Power Supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139025
(It supplies power and is blue, nothing more could be asked for)

Graphics:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102945
(Far better than the one I had originally chosen, and is mildly blue, yay!)

This comes out to $999.93 which makes my OCD happy.
Could you tell me what you think?

I do know that I am sacrificing CPU power for looks, but I fell in love with the case, and had to have it.

Lol if looks are important to you then you can get ito, you can reuse the case for future builds so it more of a investment.

Personally I don't see why it looks good. Functionality wise it has a lot of mesh so there isn't very much in the way of sound damping and to you that with so many fans it will be a dust magnet - you will have to clean it regularly, especially if you have pets.

Bulldozer are still fairly new and there isn't a lot of benchmarks on the FX 6100. Since you are building this computer for gaming I only looked at the gaming benchmarks. You can decide if it is worth it or not. But looking at power consumption, the fx6100 draws 74w more than the 2500k @stock speed.

Hard Drive - yeah you it isn't the best time to buy them since the floods in thailand right now are cause shortages so the prices went up. I'm not surprised that the F3 is out of stock since the other drive that is equal to it's performance (WD blue) is $30 more. I don't know when the prices are going to come down again.

Ok, thank you for all the input, I will seriously consider all the things you have said :)
Can't wait to get started!
