Mix and match ram

hi all, i'm just wondering if it's ok to mix and match different brands or at least different models of ram in a system. i currently have a a dual channel 8gb kingston running at 1600 and wondered if i could throw in a different brand running at 1600 also. if i can is there a downside? or should i just stick to one brand one model? thanks for the help!

Match with speed and timing of memory. Different brand will work.

Lets say the speed is the same, would a CL2.5 work with 3x CL3's?

You may need to manually set cl. Many memory memory has different timings setting. It may work.

But buy ram with matching timings.

ok rad, i was hoping that was the case and i wouln't want to any different timings or speed, just thinking of christmas and what someone might get me
