PLEASE give me some advice

I have recently built the following system:

Intel i5 2500k cpu
Asus P8P67-m rev3 mobo
corsair 600w psu
2x 4gb transcend ddr3 1333 ram
club 3d amd radeon 6790 gpu
windows 7 x64 extreme edition

I think there is a graphics card issue, if I try watching movies or playing games the computer hangs at random times and a screen with any colour from blue to grey or brown with vertical bars shows up! this forces me into a hard reset!

I have been running Witcher 2 full screen and windowed at different resolutions and at full screen 1920x1080 i can play for a long period of time but when i access the in game menu it hangs. this happens on numerous games and movies. does anyone know of this problem and its solution. is it a faulty gpu? please help

oh ya and the hdd is a wd 500gb sata3

i think your'e right..graphic card it sounds like imho. i had a $300 radeon that did that...lost the reciept..now its art on my wall...lol. might wanna try to borrow a gpu to check though.

have you overclocked it or not,
if not then monitor temperatures of your hardware, make sure the are lower than 70'C

havent overclocked anything! the temperatures are all stable, gpu is idling around 30 deg and peaking around 70

when the lines happen and freeze up..is there a screech as well? mine did.

sometimes there is a sort of screech, but mostly the sound keeps playing for a little while then gets into a loop

well for my 2 cents..its the gpu..others may think different.
