Hi all,

I've been using Tom's Hardware a long time for PC info but I finally jumped onto the forums today 'cause I'm thinking of building a new system (my fifth build) but unlike past builds I have been busy in recent years and haven't kept up with tech like I used to, so I was just looking for opinions before I start purchasing components to see if I'm on the right track here.

Keep in mind that I'm looking at a price range close to or less than (preferably less than) components I've already selected and thanks in advance for any input you might have.

My current build selection is as follows:

Intel Core i7-2600K CPU $319.99
ASUS P8P67 LE B3 Motherboard $129.99
16GB Corsair DDR3-1600MHz RAM (4x4GB) $122.99
Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower ATX Case $139.99
Corsair CWCH80 Hydro H80 CPU liquid cooler $99.99
WD Caviar 1TB 7200RPM, 32MB cache Hard Drive $109.99
ASUS 24X DVD Burner (originally wanted to go with Blueray but decided against cost) $19.99
ASUS GeForce GTX570 GPU $319.99
PSU I'll be using is a Corsair 750W from previous system $0.00

Build cost also includes Win7 Professional 64-bit OEM DVD, as well as a Samsung 24" widescreen LED monitor (want to upgrade from 20" Acer X203H LCD, but thinking about waiting...) $139.99 and $189.99 consecutively.

Total cost with shipping approx $1630 USD.

Primary use includes gaming, movies, and some graphics as well as day-to-day stuff.

So, you see any glaring errors? Any recommendation to the contrary? I had thought about changing system to AMD CPU as all of my prior builds were AMD but the Core i7 looks pretty nice from what I can see and I'm willing to pay the price premium for it to last a bit longer than my last build in terms of performance..

You've assembled a rig that will game extremely well on the screens you're talking about. The other uses you mentioned are a cakewalk.

- You could save money going with 8GB of memory. Unless you know you have apps that will use that much memory, it will be wasted. Even 8GB is often overkill. ATM I checked, this was the lowest cost 1600 1.5V memory from a top-drawer mfg:

G.Skill 2x4GB $48 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416

There's nothing wrong with your mobo choice - just so you realize it won't run 2xGPU very well, and won't support 2xnVidia cards at all. If you want to protect against a future need to double up your graphics cards (perhaps an unlikely need) choose a different mobo.

OTOH, I would suggest going with the same board using the Z68 chip set at the same price:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131773

The board gives you some additional video features you may not ever use, and will give you nackup onboard graphics which may come in handy someday . . . at no additional cost.

You might take a look at this case and see if it appeals to you:

Inwin Buc $87 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811108395&Tpk=inwin%20buc

It reviewed very very well:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4303/inwin-buc-100-dollar-chassis/7

and stood up very well against a bunch of other cases reviewed in the same way.

Enjoy the build!
