ok so ive been build a gaming rig for a while now and i add a new peace of hardware every month. for the past 3 months ive been running an athlon ii x4 at stock clock on a asus M5A97 Evo motherboard with 6 gigs of ram and a gt520 graphics card. i was drooling over the 1100t for a while then the fx8120 came out. im torn between the 2 i like the idea of 8 native cores but i hear when you go into turbo mod only 4 of those cores are used. so my question is does any ne have any real world data on both of these processors.id like to know what you guys think i only have 9 days left to make up my mind

More about : core 1100t

the 1100t is better.

The FX isn't worth the money and games have a hard time using more than 3 cores.

Turbo core doesn't work all that well in any of the cpus.

Go with the 1100t

so get an 1100t? i was thinking about the fx8120 because i like to watch movies and listen to music whil i game i have dual displays and run at 80% when i run games as it is.

The 1100t will have no problem doing that.

well why did they put out an 8 core processor if the 6 core will out perform it. i was going to get it to over clock it to 5ghz
January 27, 2012 4:44:24 AM

because the chip underperformed compared to expectations.

Why does a quad core sandybridge cpu outperform an 8 core cpu?
January 27, 2012 4:51:58 AM

because its made by intel lol but amd has a good market niche in price and not every body can drop 400 bucks on a top of the line i7

Exactly, and even an i5-2500k which is cheaper than the fx-8150 outperforms it.

i take it your a die hard intel dude lol

lol i think your actually talking about things you dont understand or have not read about.

i have the 1090T and the FX-8150 along with the new 3930K the 6 core will do 4.4Ghz without having to change the way the cores work, the FX-8150 will only do 4.6Ghz any higher and you have to start turning cores off or changing the way it works and lose performance, but hey i know nothing and dont work with OC'ing daily. the new 3930K will do 5.0Ghz without having to change the cores in the way of turning them on or off.

so before you start shouting about 5Ghz try reading up on things or teching up on things that are out there and what they do and dont do

well from what ive read the fx holds the world record for over clocking which is now 8.461GHz. with liquid helium. and ive heard of the fx doing 5ghz and being stable. i think every body is hooked on intel. im a die hard amd fan. i like amd because i can afford one of theyre processors and not have to save up for it for a year to get the latest and the greatest

look im a MASSIVE AMD fanboy, i have an intel as work paid for it so i put it in my gaming rig and put the AMD in my work Rig, i like AMD and YES it holds the record BUT that was only running on 2cores out of 8 when it did that, look it up i aint lying its all there in black and white, and as for 5ghz YEs it WILL do that no problem but after 4.8Ghz you need to start turning cores off if you want it stable, dude i like AMD but this is not a chip to push to 5.0 trust me i know i blew one doing it and had to replace it im just luck its not intel money and it was cheap enough to replace.

1100T. I was in the same boat but frankly the cost of the 1100T compared to the 8150 even the 8120 didn't warrant the 5% performance increase over the 1100T. Plenty of juice for games, video and whatever else running together.

--- Quick note, just checked newegg, looks like the price for the 1100T and the 8120 are the same. Although the 1100T is out of stock.

Either one of those would be fine.

well thats what i was saying in an earlier post and from the data ive gather the fx 8120 is only behind the 1100t by a few points and compusa has it instock

Over-clock your Propus quad.

Difference with PhIIs at similar clocks probably 5-10% in most games. You're not close to your CPU potential with a gt520, anyway.

For encoding I'd keep what yah got -- come Spring maybe we'll see a new BD stepping to tempt you.

Over-clocking will also help boost your IMC/NB to improve memory performance.

The X4/X6 also overclocks well. My stock X4 965BE, originally at 3.4, is now at 4.6 stable.
