Bad psu causes flaming hard drive D:

Good thing this isn't my main rig....though it is my second hackintosh rig that is running a piece of crap rocket fish 700w psu....I turned it on today and noticed a burning smell and saw the hdd was on fire!!!!!! Could this be because of this crap psu? Could my hdd be dead? Should I buy another power supply?

To be honest i say, even if it wasn't dead, just get rid of it, if it was a fault with the hard drive then it could ruin another computer if you install it.

There could be an issue with the power cable that you used to power your HDD, I can't remember exactly but it was around the lines of not all HDD's supporting 3.3 volts or something like that.

I got the psu for free, however I just inspected the HDD and it seems perfectly fine? But I don't know if it is a good idea to turn it on.
@snappy This is a hackintosh build that students at my middle school can use (teacher gives me bonus points too!
