Okay I was wanting to know if there are some technique to display video from my computer to my dads television in the other room. I read an article about Media Extenders, but are those really neccessary? What do you guys suggest would be the best option?

you could connect a PC/Laptop to the TV and play a file of the HDD or the network.

you could use a Media Extender like the XBox connected to the TV via HDMI and streaming via network

Some TVs can connect to the network and support media streaming through a build in option.
