Bad RAM causing freezes

Last response: in Motherboards

After reading articles in these forums I see that RAM memory can degrade and start to cause system freezes
My PC was behaving like a dog for weeks, constantly freezing and misbehaving. I removed one of the RAM sticks from the motherboard and rebooted. My PC suddenly started to behave itself again and ran smoothly. As a second experiment I thought I would swap the sticks round and see if the PC stayed stable and yes it behaving like a dream again. Can anyone explain why this would be or am I just imagining this. Will it start behaving badly again.
