Please help pick some hardware to upgrade

Hi all, I'm currently looking forward to upgrade, but only few pieces, my budget is about $400-$500 for these pieces.
I currently have the following:

AMD Athlon X3 435 @ 2.9GHz
AMD Radeon 5770 1GB
8GB DDR3 1600
Gigabyte board (AM3 only, no AM3+ support)

The rest I'm fine with. With that budget, I'm looking for something that could do decent for Battlefield 3 (If not possible for Ultra settings, then High with some AA's is enough for me), and for alot of Photoshop. I'm not sure if I should stick with AMD and go Phenom X6 because the new FX came out, or go Intel. Not even sure if it's necessary to upgrade my graphics card...Please give me some advice, I greatly appreciate your help. Thank you in advance for your reply.

More about please pick hardware upgrade
  1. Just to let you know a $330+ graphics card(HD-6970) averages 33 fps while playing BF3 max settings @ 1080p...
So idk how your graphics card($120) will handle battlefield 3. =(

EDIT: Also your 3 core cpu wont help with those numbers either. The benchmark above was done on a 2600k @ 4.5 ghz
  2. Your going to be needing a quad core CPU to really be able to get the settings high. I'd recommend a phenom or even a athlon x4 black. Your graphics card COULD be upgraded, doesn't really need it but if you want you could upgrade to a current generation card.
  3. Thanks for your suggestion dontqqnub, but as I said, atleast some High settings is sufficient. Doesn't have to be Ultra settings :) Any specific hardware suggestions?
  4. Kcherdch, I would upgrade your graphics card to the latest generation, the radeon 6000 series.
    for 120$ i would get

    But would recommend
    $200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121418
  5. A new MB, and a second vid card (X-Fire) may help. If your PSU is up to snuff anyway. Throw in a 955, and you're good to go. Keep your RAM.

    MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157276
$80 ASRock 870iCafe R2.0 AM3+ AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s ATX (this way if the B3 step of the FX is decent, you can upgrade to it later)
    VID: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908
$140 SAPPHIRE 100315L Radeon HD 6850 (use this as the primary, and your 5770 in the x4 slot)
    CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808
$120 AMD Phenom II X4 955 (good solid quad core, with OC potential)

    Total: $340 + S&H (not counting MIR, or combo/specials)
  6. Thanks all! Could someone also recommend me a Core i5 2500k build? I'm lost on which board to get since I haven't touched on computer hardware for a while...Thanks!
  7. If you have the money for a 2500k definitely get it... but i thought you were on a budget build since ur low priced cpu and graphics card.

Oh no no, I think you misunderstood me. That build is what I'm currently using, and would like to upgrade from. I do not mind changing platforms at all if it's needed.
  9. Ok so this video card
    $290 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121431

and this cpu would be a good combo

    $120 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808

With the extra money you an get an aftermarket heatsink and overclock.

    EDIT:
Here is a good heatsink should get you a decent overclock.
