New build monitor assistance

So I just built my new pc, and I plug it into my monitor(24inch), and it has black lines the whole way around the screen, and I can't fix it, I have it hooked up with dvi (they are white cables right?) and I am downloading drivers for my gtx 580 now, what should I do?

If Driver for both Monitor and GPU wont work than try Resolution and if it doesn't work, go to your monitor's setting and look for the size that it should come in and for example, it should be 9:16 or so... Please list what monitor(Brand Name and Model) if you still got problems with it...

Its quite possible that the reason for the black lines is that you havent downloaded the drivers yet.
