High temps on 560 Ti Hawk

Hey all,

I just got in my new MSI 560 Ti Hawk Twin Frozr III and I'm concerned about the temperatures. At idle with 60% fan speed, I'm running at about 42C. At max load (Witcher 2) my card tops out at about 87C and stays there. I have four 80mm intake fans (two in front, one on top, and one on the side) with a 120mm for pushing air out on the back. I'm running the latest drivers (280.26) Any ideas why I could be running so hot? I'm worried because I'm waiting for my SLI bridge to come in to install my second 560 Ti Hawk.

Thanks guys!

One of your problems is the poor case airflow.80mm fans don't produce a lot of airflow and aren't really something you should use to cool a case with a high performance GPU like the GTX560ti.

The Twin Frozr III is one of the best coolers out there and even though Witcher 2 is very demanding you shouldn't be getting temps that high. The problem is obviously case airflow.

I would look towards getting a new case.Their are really good ones for about $60 and would more than double the airflow.

Both case's are a resonable $60 and provide excellant cooling and expandability.

I think that the one on the top should be pushing air out like the one at the back. You didn't say what case you own, maybe it's not suitable for SLI. I had a similar problem when a built my MSI 460 gtx SLI, my temperatures were too high. I owned a mid tower case. So I changed it for a full tower (a HAF 932) and my temperatures dropped almost 20 degres when playing :D

This is the case I own. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144102 It's a mid size case, but I may start looking into a full sized tower.

Werner123:

According to this http://www.hardocp.com/article/201 [...] d_review/9 it is running a bit hot

make sure the heatsink is properly connected and not loose, could have come loose during shipping.

Up your fan speed, reset factory defaults in your nvidia control panel, install older drivers

Use other apps for monitoring temps, like core temp or real temp

Head over to newegg and read some of the user reviews maybe there is someone with the same issue

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] llFullInfo

I haven't checked the heatsink (probably should have, but I was a little excited about the new card) I'm fairly generous with my fan speed (Usually 100% while gaming) as I always wear headphones and the noise doesn't bother me. I also use Speedfan which said the same temperatures for the GPU and my CPU was about 32C idle. Also, of the reviews only one person complained about the heat but was a little bitter and didn't give too much info other than that he RMA'd it.

Thank you for your responses so far.

Unfortunately, Witcher 2 crashes whenever the temperature hits 87C.

Of course, myself being a genius I am (Note sarcasm) I realized I have another card sitting in my room that I could see how that performs in comparison. I'll let you guys know what happens after I get home from work in hopes of helping anyone else who may have this issue.

Thank you guys again for the responses. It's bad airflow which is causing the high temps. Running a little fan directly into my two cards and GPUs top out at about 65C during Witcher 2. Should hold me over until I get a new case.
