560 TI, 6950 1gb, 6950 2gb

Hey, trying to decide between the 560 ti, 1gb or 2gb 6950.

rest of rig;

i5 2500k
z68
1280x1024 monitor (will get a 1920x1080 around christmas)
8 gigs ddr3 1333 ripjaws
750w antec high current gamer series
rosewill challenger
hyper 212+
seagate barracuda 1tb 7200 rpm
sony 24x cd/dvd
windows 7 home premium 64bit

I prefer the cheaper, however can go to 250$ if needed.

not going to overclock, looking to play these games;

for Civ 5 i would definetely go for the gtx 560 Ti although the 6950 would be better in almost anything else!:

I would suggest the 2GB vram version card. I use a 2gb 6950 Sapphire and it's great. 1GB is really cutting it to close playing at 1080p. I've noticed texture issues on my 4870x2 (1gb ddr5) with a few games at 1080p // with catalyst ai up. Mainly APB

Granted you'll get a new monitor for Christmas I "strongly" suggest the 2GB gddr5 card.


done bfbc2 // 3, Crysis, Dragon Age II, Metro 2033, Dues Ex. All on "high" settings @ 1080p and it's all been smooth.

I can tell you right now with Vsync disabled on max setting you'd probably get like 150 fps lol

Even in the Alpha for BF3, my Sapphire FLEX 6950 2GB worked great on 1920x1080, but that game in its stage wouldn't let you play with the video settings.

OP:

If you were ocing Id say get the gtx 560ti, mine holds a 1ghz core oc and is cool and quiet. In the end, for the OP id get a 2 GB 6950 IMHO

No the 6950's cannot be unlocked anymore. I think the Toxic and Flex are more expensive, regular is fine? You have a budget to keep too xfx is great too, I just suggested the Sapphire as I'd wager my chequeing account it would win in a benchmark by at least .001%

I believe the Toxic card is the fastest one if it's an option.

The xfx one is regular. I only have exp with the sapphire, runs MUCH cooler than my old Diamond card. The difference is nomimal, you may as well get the one that looks cooler lol. The XFX has the nice life time warranty though. So even if it runs hot and burns out. you get another one

I believe it's 2 years. They don't ask for proof of purchase though, so just it's within the 2 year time frame
