Hello all, I am having an issue with my AMD setup i have built, let me share the specs:

ASUS 990FX R2.0 Mobo
AMD FX-8350 @4GHz CPU
3x4GB Corsair XMS 1333mhz Ram
Seagate Barracuda 2TB @ 7200rpm HDD
Lite-on 22x OD
Ultra 550W PSU
XFX 6770 1GB GDDR5 GPU

The problem here is that my system will not post at all, I have installed all the components, But when turned on, the Cpu error light indictar turns on. I have tried to update the BIOS to support the latest Vishera Cpu's But the system will still not post.

So I was wondering lately if the motherboard is not at fault? could the AMD 8350 be DOA? would there be a chance that the CPU is dead?

This Being my second system in less than a month, i have to wonder if something is up.
For those who are interested, my other system:
i7-3770k
MSI GT660TI PE/OC
MSI Z77A-G45
4x8gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
2tb Seagate Barracuda @ 7200rpm
Thermaltake 750W modular PSU
CM Storm Enforcer Mid ATX Case
Azio Levetron Mech5 Mechanical keyboard
Razer Imperator mouse
Logitech G930 7.1 Surround headset

Hi, When using flashback, have you used the flashback USB port (the one near the flashback button)? Have you renamed the file to ST990R20.CAP? And have you used a FAT formatted USB stick?
November 30, 2012 9:33:09 AM

Yes i have, i tried my USB drive in FAT and FAT32, with ST990R20.CAP version 1101 AND 1201, i hold the flashback button, it starts flashing blue (like it should) then my read light on the USB drive starts indicating a read, and after about a minute the light goes off, indicating that it is complete, yet when i try to boot, the red cpu light is still on, yet again.

Does the CPU fan spin when powering up?
November 30, 2012 9:47:12 AM

The Cpu fan spins, so that means my mobos CPU_FAN port if working... i have checked for voltage in the 12v ATX power connector as well, so it leads me to believe i have a dead cpu, or it is not getting power.
Another thing i noticed: This red light is practically always on, with or without the atx power connector plugged in.
Thanks for your responses alexoiu :)

Try reinstalling the CPU. Test the board outside the case, on the motherboad's box.
If still the same... I would test the components a a local shop.

If the CPU fan does spin when powering up, then I think that it's a problem related to the flashing process.

Hi ... Wondering if you could share what you did to get this resolved?
February 3, 2013 6:06:20 AM

Hi Folks ... I'm using a similar setup to soares1969 - Memory differs though

MOBO: Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Processor: FX 8350
Memory: Kingston DDR3 Hyperx 2x Predator 8gb PC 2400 (on beige slots (B2 & A2 ))
Graphic: VGA Sapphire PCIE ATI 7850 2GB DDR5 256 bit

I completed the Flash BIOS update.

First-time I've gone AMD and am not regretting it, because problems can be fun, but I'm becomming impatient to see what all the hype about the board and the processor is about.

Any help would be appreciated, and of course let me know if more info is needed.

I am also having the same issue, has anyone figured out what to do or the problem?
April 25, 2013 9:21:45 PM

I'm also having this same exact problem with the same motherboard an CPU, i havent done the bios update but i guess i can try that. im taking it to a local shop tomorrow so they can test the compnents.

Grab a motherboard speaker ( it will usually plug in by the power and reset button switches) listen to the beep codes u get during a failure to post.

Also i would recommend going barebones post, where you put mobo out of case, and have just one or two (if dual channel) memory modules in the board with no gpu no nothing.

Also make sure you have the molex connector firmly pressed into the slot from the mother board its the 8 pin one directly above your i/o panel

If you do not get a beep code signaling The cpu, i would then try switching power supplies from one system to another, Just because your LED lights come on doesn't mean that your Power Supply does have enough wattage for your GPU + CPU combo.

I'm getting this exact issue right now as well. Any luck? Did anyone RMA their motherboard and/o processor? Did you get it a second time with the replaced components?

had the same issue with my m5a99fx pro 2.0, tryed everything where able to boot a couple of time and get into the bios, but at restart cpu led stayed lit again, anyway sent the motherboard back to the shop, since i have my old asrock 970 pro3 r2.0 board and it runs flawlessly not a single issue
