I noticed that HP computers labels their CPU like this: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3960X six-core processor [3.3GHz, Shared 15MB Cache]
What does Shared cache mean? Are the HP computer CPU's made differently than the CPUs from Intel?

More about : computers diferent cpu

No hp computers do not use different cpu's. I didn't even know they had a 3960x in one of their systems :heink:

Must be a typo :p

HP does not stand for high-performance.

Not after the bloatware.

That's why it's called "horribly programmed" and the "vendor of expensive printer ink"

show the link where this HP pc is shown, I want to see if it is true that HP sells PC's with that CPU ... and no CPU manufacturers does not produce different CPU's for any vendors from those already released by then. Each type of CPU has a segment, Desktop, mobile (laptop, Netbook), Ultra low voltage (Netbook some laptops, now even some tablets).

Shared cache: mean that there's "x" amount of memory shared between cores in different levels, in that type of cpu that you mention is Level 3 cache.

Is the HP CPU an original? Or is HP CPU a OEM copy tailored for HP computers?

Is Original OEM. other Cpu's are boxed.

The cpu's are made by intel.

Then why do the CPUs say this:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K six-core processor [3.2GHz, Shared 15MB Cache]
Included in priceId : QC468AV Price : 600.00 EPP Price : 0.00 MIR : 0.00 IR : 0.00
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3960X six-core processor [3.3GHz, Shared 15MB Cache]
+$500.00

WHY IS THE CACHE SHARED? ON DELL COMPUTERS THE CPU DESCRIPTION IS A LOT DIFFERENT BECAUSE ON DELL COMPUTERS THE CPU DOES NOT SAY SHARED CACHE.

The CPU is idnetical, the HP description is more detailed.

If the CPU model number is the same, it is the same CPU.

It is made by Intel.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K six-core processor [3.2GHz, Shared 15MB Cache] means this:

A standard OEM intel made i7 3930k six core at 3.2 ghz and 15mb LEVEL 3 cache.
Level 1 and 2 are confined to each individual core, level 3 cache is shared by all cores together.
(15/6= 2,5 mb level 3 cache per core)

This is already being used by intels socket 775 9000 series and nothing new. AMD and IBM PPC uses this even longer.

I like your answer. But why is that HP computers is the only Computer company that describes their CPUs are shared cache?

They aren't the only company that does so, however for most of the other companies they hide it in technical specifications and more detailed descriptions as most of the common computer consumers have no idea what memory caches are let alone multi level caching and shared caching. Quite honestly your typical consumer doesn't even understand what a clock cycle is and you end up describing it as a rating of the power/speed of a CPU similar to describing horsepower on the engines of cars.

This is why most companies don't include it in their add copy, HP chooses to sometimes as a more bigger numbers impresses the consumer type of thing, even if they don't get it. Try talking to their sales reps on the phone sometime most of them can't even tell you why you would a specific processor over another.
