Hi I am going to upgrade my cpu and need advise.

What is the best amd cpu that will fit in this motherboatrd:

I have 4 gb ram and 450 psu.

So basically the fastest things would be a Phenom X4 9950 Black edition, or an Athlon X2 6400+, or the Athlon 64 FX62, but good luck finding one. I think most places have moved their AMD lines to socket AM3 or AM3+

eBay might have to be your friend here.

will one of the following cpus also work with my mb:

AMD PHENOM II X4 965 3.4 GHZ

AMD ATHLON II X4 645 3.1 GHZ

are these 2 backwards compatible

Both of those are am3 sockets your mother board is am2 so not compatible be like trying to put a square peg through a round hole

Agreed, the only time I've heard of backward compatible cpus was with certain Am3 boards being able to handle AM3+ chips, with a bios update. However I'd read that it wasn't unproblematic.

So NO, AM3 chips will NOT go into an AM2 board.........sadly

am3 cpu are backward compatible with am2+ with bios support,
your board is am2+ ready (not support complete am2+) and thus you can add only upto 1st gen phenom and not phenom2

dont got no budget ill buy anything, just as long as i dont have to upgrade other stuff like motherboard. i only want a new processor.
