Recently I was trying to clean my heat sink and fan, so I unscrewed it. Although I pulled up the wrong way and bent the cpu :fou: . After hours of effort correcting the pins I cannot tell if the cpu is fully in or not. I don't want to damage it anymore. Can I please have some suggestions, ect. Thanks :D . My mother board: Pegatron M2N7B-LA, here is some pictures:

Thanks

The last picture shows a gap between the CPU and the socket. Are all pins straight?

I believe some of them are slightly off, what do you suggest to straighten them? :p

How does cleaning the heatsink and fan involve removing the cpu???

When I removed the fan and heat sink as a whole, the cpu was attached to the bottom via thermal paste. I removed it wrong and bent some of the pins.

Using a very small metal tube with an inside hole the size of a pin should work quite well. Several years ago I had to straighten a few pins on an AMD processor; I used a pair of very small pliers and a magnifier glass to make sure that they were straight and properly lined up. This is a tedious task.

Does literately every pin need to be straight. It seems to only be sticking out a little bit now.

If they're not, then the CPU can't be fully inserted in the socket and you'll probably damage it when installing the HSF. It may sound like a stupid question, but why did you have to remove the HSF to clean it? A vacuum cleaner would have done a decent job.

Always remember to unfasten the heatsink, twist the heatsink a little to the left and a little to the right before you pull it away from the cpu. This loosens the thermal paste and prevents your cpu from popping out of the socket.

It was starting to run hot, and I wasn't thinking :(

are you undoing the lever before putting the cpu in?

Yep, its just not going in, I undo the lever put it in (Lining up the yellow with the arrow in my motherboard) push down carefully, then close the lever. But it doesn't click in. To fix it I trying to use tweezers a magnifying glass and a mechanical pencil :p

When looking at the rows of pins from various angles, are they all properly lined up? It's difficult to determine from your pictures if the pins still are slightly bent. The CPU should easily slip into the socket and be properly seated.

Use a pair of small pliers to straighten any bent pin. You shouldn't have to push down on it (at least very little) if the pins are straight and lined up properly.

Even with the magnifying glass, I can't see any bent pins, ect :(

I can slide a med sized gift card between it with ease and these isn't any bent/unstraightend pins, yet it still refused to fit in the socket. :( , any ideas?

I guess you should try to give some force to it, not enough to break any pins but enough to straighten them.

That is all I can think of as you are in a pretty bad situation.

Oh my god, awesome :D , after I applied force it went it, one quick question. Can I apple thermal paste to the cpu when it is in the case then put the hsf on top, or do I need to take it out?

You can do it, though don't remove your cpu when installing an hsf...
